US rapper Fatman Scoop passes away after collapsing on stage

US rapper Fatman Scoop has passed away at the age of 56 after collapsing during a concert in Connecticut on Friday, his representative told the BBC. Scoop was performing at Town Center Park in Hamden when he collapsed mid-set.

Hamden's Mayor Lauren Garrett shared on Facebook that the rapper was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. His booking agency, MN2S, confirmed his death, stating that Scoop's "legacy will live on through his timeless music."

"Fatman Scoop was a beloved figure in the music industry, cherished by fans worldwide. His iconic voice, infectious energy, and warm personality left an indelible mark," said a spokesperson from the agency.

In a heartfelt tribute, his family described him as "a radiant soul and a beacon of light both on stage and in life. He was not only a world-class performer but a loving father, brother, uncle, and friend who brought laughter and unwavering support to all around him."

Born Isaac Freeman III, Fatman Scoop played a pivotal role in New York City's hip hop scene during the 1990s. He is known for collaborating on popular tracks such as Missy Elliott's Grammy-winning "Lose Control" and Mariah Carey's "It's Like That." His 1999 track "Be Faithful" gained international recognition in 2003, topping the charts in the UK and Ireland.

Scoop also appeared on the UK TV series *Chancers* in 2004 and was a contestant on *Celebrity Big Brother 16: UK vs USA* in 2015. His tour manager, DJ Pure Cold, shared his grief on Instagram, thanking Scoop for the lessons he imparted and the experiences they shared.

Scoop was scheduled to perform at the UK’s Reminisce Festival in September. The festival called his passing “devastating,” describing him as “a cherished member of the Reminisce family.”

An earlier version of this article stated that Fatman Scoop was 53, but it has been updated to reflect that he was 56 at the time of his death.
