Over 230 doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals—most of whom support Vice President Kamala Harris—have called on former President Donald Trump to release his medical records, stressing the need for transparency due to his age.

The letter, dated October 13 and obtained by CBS News, was signed by 238 medical professionals and organized by the group “Doctors for Harris,” which is not affiliated with Harris' campaign. They note that presidential candidates, including Senator John McCain in 2008, have traditionally shared their medical records, and Trump himself released some health details before Election Day in 2020. Without recent records, the group says, "we are left to extrapolate from public appearances."

The letter also criticizes Trump’s behavior in public, suggesting it shows signs of "declining acuity" as he "rambles" and "lashes out" at grievances. The professionals see transparency as vital, particularly for an office as demanding as the presidency.

Harris has underscored the contrast in transparency, recently releasing her own medical records, which affirm her “physical and mental resiliency” to serve as president. She has since called on Trump to do the same, questioning why his campaign withholds such information.

Trump’s campaign responded with letters from his personal physician, Dr. Ronny Jackson, stating he is in “perfect and excellent health,” though they lack specific details. At 78, Trump would be the oldest president if elected.

The debate reflects public concerns, with recent CBS News polls showing that more registered voters in key swing states view Harris as having the mental fitness for the presidency compared to Trump.
